Viva Virtual Assistants! – with Molly Rose Speed

Ever catch yourself singing that line from “Viva Las Vegas?” The one that goes “How I wish that there were more than 24 hours in a day!” In the song, The King was pining for more time to cut loose in Sin City.

Slipping off to Vegas may not be in the cards, but we all wish to get back more hours in a day that we can call our own. There’s a lot we’d rather be doing if we weren’t stuck with mundane tasks. Well, having a virtual assistant is kind of like gaining back some hours in a day – someone to help you sort through what you are good at, what you enjoy doing, and then outsourcing the rest!
On this episode of Stand Out: Growing Your Organizing and Productivity Business, host Sarah Karakaian talks with guest Molly Rose Speed. Molly Rose has a thriving virtual assistant business of her own, and also teaches others the ins and outs of becoming a virtual assistant.

Sarah and Molly Rose talk about both being a virtual assistant and hiring a virtual assistant. For those of us in the organizing and productivity business, adding virtual assistant services might be a natural progression in what we offer. And this is not just clearing out someone’s inbox. That is one level of service, but virtual assistants can also offer more premium services – like streamlining and automating common business processes, helping with social media presence, and more.

Academy for Virtual Assistants took shape after Molly Rose was frequently stopped or contacted by people saying, “I want to do what you are doing!” So she decided to put together what has become a 6-week, online learning program. The course teaches you how to communicate with clients, how to manage multiple projects, stay organized, and ultimately make a profit as a virtual assistant.

Molly Rose and Sarah go on to talk about what it takes to be a virtual assistant. They touch on the importance of trust when you are working on potentially sensitive areas of client business. There are a number of ways to bill for services, but Molly Rose encourages setting up a retainer as a win-win for both parties.
